Of all the seniors touring the science and technology museum, Kelly is probably the only one actually interested in what the man leading the tour has to say. She’s fascinated by the ongoing studies of the human brain, and one exhibit seems particularly interesting, the man telling a somewhat raucous group of seniors how the human brain’s pleasure centers are so close to the same part which processes pain.
At the word pleasure, most of the students are too busy laughing for Kelly to hear more, but she wants to see the piece of equipment he describes closer. It’s something they are researching that could one day provide altered joltage electrical stimuli to the brain, potentially turning pain into pleasure so fast that injuries are healed rapidly, that just the experience of pain results in immediate pleasure instead.
The idea seems to be that such research could one day help hospitals healing their patients, could maybe even put an end to the trauma of severe pain as pain no longer exists.
