Path-illogical Running Scared by Kris P. Kreme

Emily is a promising track star with a secret training ritual that may become so much more than mere training one day.

Fear is the motivation, the idea of perceived danger inspiring her to run longer, stronger, and to be the success on the track she has become. She dresses the part, looking slutty, looking like she never looks in front of her peers, and then runs alone in the wilderness, telling herself that monsters are going to get her.

But when Emily’s training run takes her accidentally down a particularly potent path, those monsters become anything but perceived, and her fate may be sealed in suffering everything she ever psyched herself up imagining… for real.

Emily is on the fast track, literally, her track scholarships destined to lead her to any college she wants, but no one at her school and certainly not her parents know just how Emily motivates herself to run at peak speed for such sustained time. Today is part of her training ritual and unfortunately for Emily, that ritual may take her training to extremes she never knew possible.

Perceived danger is the key to Emily’s training, why she runs so hard for so long, and while no one else at school would ever think of her as a busty slut, that is exactly how she has dressed for today’s remote day-long run through the forest. Ever since she was chased much younger by a fierce dog, Emily realized that nothing pushed her past her limits and exercised those limits as well as Running Scared.

So she has made remote training days in the wilderness around Mount Madness a regular thing, especially as her senior year means she will be moving on to bigger and better things, her track star status not to be challenged by anyone in the state. For her ritual she dresses the part, knowing no one will see her in the middle of nowhere. But it’s the perceived danger that inspires, pretending like she’s the busty slut she dresses as, looking far different than she ever would look in front of her peers or parents.

Making sure to park on an out of the way stretch of wilderness, Emily psyches herself up, looking at the reflection of how she dressed, a pushup bra to make her body look more top-heavy, her scoop-necked skimpy shirt and makeup. She tells herself that today the monsters are going to get her… that they will defile her, that a band of inbred hillbillies will breed her, that a devil dog will chase and hump her, or that a demon will rise up from the trail itself and put seed inside her. It’s all to motivate her sustained adrenaline, the need and urgency to run, to work herself into peak physical form.

The where has never been as important, Emily relying on a GPS tracker to take her back to her car whenever she is done training, but today, where might be what finally does her in and gives her exactly those motivations come to life.

When Emily takes off running, only thinking of the many creatures after her, the people, the monsters, she never notices the carved cedar she happens to run under until a very real and very impossibly evil looking red-eyed wolf rears up before her, hungering look definitely not for food in its eyes. Turning and running away from it, it’s not long before Emily is practically running into an impossible all black figure, a real demon rising up, rather calmly beginning to pursue her. And when she runs right past some crazed looking horny hillbillies, Emily truly is finding Mount Madness maddening today.

But will her fears truly get her in the end, will Running Scared down a particular path lead Emily to who she always pretended to be… the willing victim ready to be caught by more than mere monsters, ready to serve those who vanished during their own walks after fantasizing about a sexy helpless girl just like her?
