But will Sophie see MUCH more action than any boys could have given her after she accidentally shrinks herself down to ten inches tall with Waylon Miller’s shrink ray?

Things are running smoothly at the Kreme Factory, readers… there’s just One Small Problem, too much Kreme! So get ready as a month stuffed overflowing with Hot Shots of Kreme begins with a twisted little tale about a teenage girl working to assist an eccentric inventor.

Sophie really isn’t all that enamored by the makeshift lab that looks a lot more like some cluttered garage behind the home of eccentric inventor, Waylon Miller. As a girl heading into her senior year of high school, she definitely appreciates the low hours and the decent pay he offers, but she would have rather gotten a part-time job at the mall or somewhere she could see her friends or boys or something.

Of course Sophie’s parents insisted on no job where she saw boys, assuming somehow she’d get into some horrible trouble with boys as though she couldn’t be trusted. So here she is, spending the last number of weeks of summer supposedly intended to be a scientist and inventor’s assistant.

The one rule Waylon Miller, a crazy character whose age she can’t place because of his wildly unkempt white hair, gives her is not to touch anything unless he asks her to. As he claims there are inventions, devices, and even energy and invigoration capsules that still aren’t fully tested. His claim is that all the inventions or developments others hire him to try and create are for the betterment of mankind, to revolutionize society and change the way life is lived.

But mostly Sophie is finding herself bored as he walks her through and points out all the things for her not to touch. Whether it’s the delicate gel capsules that offer instant energy and youthful invigoration or the amusingly named Horny Dart guns he admits are one of the more unusual requested inventions, all of them are weird and silly to Sophie… especially the most unique and complicated looking contraption, a big machine with a number of blinking lights and attached robotic arms, one he calls and has labeled as a Shrink Ray.

But as bored and dismissive of Waylon Miller’s silly inventions as Sophie is, boredom will not be the theme of her day after he heads into his home to phone someone about an invention and she starts doing exactly what she was told not to do… touching things.

After flipping all the switches on the Shrink Ray, she admits that it looks pretty neat the way the robotic arms all swing into action, aiming a crisscrossing laser pattern beneath them. But when she ducks under one of the arms to look closer a blinding flash of light has Sophie momentarily worried that she just discovered why the old inventor is seemingly half-blind.

Rubbing her eyes, she finds she can still see, but everything looks much bigger in the cluttered garage of a lab. Sophie is somehow only about ten inches tall now, trapped in a cluttered garage unable to reach the switches and see about reversing her shrunken state.

When Waylon Miller returns, he assumes Sophie, like many unreliable teenagers, ran off with no interest in being his right-hand girl. And thanks to the noise of the various inventions and devices, he doesn’t hear her tinier voice calling out, his sight so poor he doesn’t notice her trying to get his attention right away.

Can Sophie climb around and use things in the room to get his attention, and will her using the various inventions and items he told her not to touch only take her further and further down a road to a job like she never imagined? Hitting Waylon Miller with everything from the invigorating energy pills to the Horny Darts from that gun, the man may soon actually see his tiny assistant, but have very different intentions for her than simply reversing her back to full size.

Sophie needed a job before her senior year, and she found one with just One Small Problem… her.
