Two weeks into the new year and friends Marissa and Denise have a mystery on their hands. New Years Eve, they were with their shy responsibly reserved friend Serina at a small bar. They’d talked her into wearing a sexy red dress, which naturally made her uncomfortable and being the sober one of the group, Serina left shortly after midnight… and hasn’t been seen since. But when Marissa, the brainy self-described sexy sleuth of the group goes looking for clues to what might be going on at Serina’s apartment, she may just find herself more clueLESS than she ever imagined.
Speaking to Denise on the phone, Marissa is determined that something mysterious is going on, even if the always easygoing married Denise is insisting that Marissa may be overreacting. Marissa grew up on the mysteries of Nancy Drew and has always been a brilliant sleuth in her own right… but the mystery she finds awaiting her at Serina’s place might be too big to handle.
Worried about Marissa getting in trouble for breaking into Serina’s apartment, Denise is soon more worried that maybe something really has happened to their blonde busty friend when the door to the apartment is found unlocked and open.
So as Marissa heads inside to see what clues might be there to Serina’s disappearance, Denise insists on sending someone over to provide safety and backup for Marissa. And since she and her husband, Ellis, can’t get over to Serina’s apartment until hours later, she has Ellis send Sebastian over, the last person Marissa wants to deal with today.
As Marissa starts searching through the absolute mess Serina’s apartment is, she can smell more than a mystery, and when Sebastian shows up to supposedly keep her safe while she sleuths, he smells it too… sex.
Serina has always been a virginal sweet girl, highly responsible, in no way the wild one, so there’s just no way her apartment would be left unlocked and reeking of sex unless something crazy happened to her between New Year’s Eve and now. But the last help Marissa wants is Sebastian, someone who isn’t even a friend… merely her creepy step brother she tolerates who happens to be friends with Denise’s husband Ellis.
Sebastian has always been a cocky arrogant guy, one who knows how good looking he is, which never helps. And other than his teasing about Marissa obsessing mysteries, he usually isn’t much help. But Sebastian has always had a crush on Serina, and realizing this is her place, knowing her as he does, even Sebastian is starting to realize something isn’t right.
But as they divide up and search the cramped cluttered apartment for clues, Marissa may find the one clue that truly puts her sleuthing brain to the test… a test it is destined to fail.
On the floor of the apartment is a man’s ring, and clearly it is the one thing obviously out of place, perhaps from whatever man is responsible for all the chaotic mess and stench of sex in Serina’s apartment.
After picking it up, even Sebastian points out that there may be prints on it, so Marissa has him going for a sandwich baggie she can place it in. Only when he holds the baggie out, she finds herself mysteriously gripping the ring only tighter, refusing to let it go… and that is when a voice seems to come from inside Marissa’s own head.
Touching the ring was all it took and now Marissa finds herself greeting the very same living curse that claimed her friend Serina. But is there anything the always brainy brilliant Marissa can do to avoid becoming what she always deep down feared becoming? Or is Marissa’s entire world about to get truly Ring Tossed?
Find out as Ringing in the new year Kremey style continues, and see just how much more extreme the curse of the ring can get as neither Marissa, nor Denise are safe this time.
